42 DAYS THROUGH FAITH is an interfaith devotional that increases empathy and compassion by emphasizing our common humanity. The author sent me a copy of this devotional to review, and I was immediately impressed. "42 Days" is offered as a supplement to the full "Six Degrees of Separation" curriculum, but is completely able to stand on its own as well. In fact, in my case, I read 42 Days first, and truly appreciated the immersion into the texts and flavors of Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Sikhism, Hinduism, and Buddhism. While the author's stated hope is to allow readers to recognize the commonalities, she does not approach that goal in any kind of pedantic way. Instead, she simply allows the material to speak for itself, trusting her readers to discover the connecting points and the richness of the diverse expressions of faith on their own. The chapter titles and daily topics speak so eloquently to the shared human experience that underlies all of these religious traditions that Ms Donkin weaves us together in a gentle, authentic way. A brilliant addition to the Six Degrees of Separation. Terrific writer and is going nowhere else but up in the writing world.
I personally am a Christian that feels strongly that we should focus on actively loving those around us no matter of the similarities or differences between us. This devotional weaves the common threads of the different religions that are included into a lovely spiritual guide. The devotional's guidance is spiritual and leaves space for your heart and mind to begin thoughtful wandering. I praised the author's Six Degrees of Separation curriculum for promoting peace in our human community and I believe this devotional is an excellent supplement. I was delighted to receive a free copy of this multi-faith devotional from the author herself as well!
